FAQ
This is one of the biggest days of your life - I'd expect you have a few questions!
Do you support Marriage Equality, Same Sex and LGBT Weddings?
Yes absolutely! I support Marriage Equality. As of 9th December 2017, Same-Sex marriage was legalised in Australia. It is wonderful that ‘Love is Love’ and it is amazing to be able to celebrate that with everyone. I would be honored to help share your love with a Ceremony
Can you perform a 'registry-style' ceremony?
Yes. All we need to do is share some beautiful (but legal) words with each other (and myself) in the presence of witnesses
When is the most popular time to get married?
While summer is a classic choice for a wedding, there's something magical about a cozy winter ceremony too
What is the Notice of intended marriage (NOIM) form?
It is a form that any couple getting married in Australia must lodge with their celebrant. The NOIM is considered lodged when I receive and witness it (usually when we first meet). You can find out more about this here: https://www.markyourceremony.com/legal
What documents will we need to show to be married?
For the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM), I will need both partners to produce 2 forms of ID: Passport, Birth Certificate or Drivers Licence
I am overseas, can I still complete the Notice of intended marriage (NOIM)?
No problem! You can complete the NOIM and have it witnessed by a public notary, then send it to me for lodging
How long do we have to produce the Notice of intended marriage (NOIM) form?
It must be lodged 1 month before your wedding and no later than 18 months before
My partner is away and cannot sign the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM). What can I do?
The NOIM can be lodged with only one signature. Your partner will need to sign the NOIM before your wedding day
I have been Married before, will that present a problem?
Not at all. I will need to see evidence of how that marriage ended (e.g. death, divorce or nullity)
I am younger than 18 years of age, can I still get married?
Yes, if you are between 16 to 18 years of age, you can still get married. You will need parental permission and a court order. This document will then need to be shown to me
Do we need to have two witnesses at our ceremony?
Yes. You need to have two witnesses who are both 18 years or older (Your witnesses do not have to prove their identity or be residents of Australia)
Can my two witnesses be family members?
Yes, as long as they are over 18 years of age and they must be able to understand what is said during the ceremony and will each sign the marriage register at the end of the ceremony
Do my witnesses need to be present for any of the signings before the official ceremony?
No. We only require your 2 witnesses on the day of the wedding
What happens if my partner cannot speak or understand English?
No problem! Just let me know when you make your booking so I can let you know the procedure and how to contact the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI)
- An interpreter will be required to attend meetings and your wedding ceremony on the day
- If you have identification and divorce documents that are not in English, you will need to have these translated (at your own cost)
Can we change our wedding date/venue if our plans change?
Yes! If I don't have another booking on your new date, I'll be happy to do your ceremony (please remember that your booking fee of $200 is non-refundable)
How far will you travel to be our celebrant?
I will travel anywhere up to 80km return from Perth (we can negotiate a travel price if it is further than this)
Can we have whatever we like in our ceremony?
Of course! I will work with you to create a unique and personalised ceremony until you are 100% happy
- You can include poems, reading, rituals, a Star Wars theme, whatever you like! Your day, your way!
- So long as The Monitum (this is legal wording that I must say) and the legal Vows that each of you must say (must be said in front of your 2 witnesses) are said let’s get creative!
I intend to live overseas. Will my Australian marriage be recognised there?
If you marry in Australia but intend to live or work in another country, you'll need to have your official Marriage Certificate certified as authentic for the relevant overseas country
- In most cases, an Apostille Stamp (which you can obtain from the Australian Passport Office) proves that an Australian registered Marriage Certificate is authentic and genuine
- This is quite a simple procedure, but you need to allow time to finalise this after your marriage, and before you travel overseas
Any questions about this your best contact: The Australian Passport Office
Can I get married in Australia no problem?
Australia has no residency requirements for marriage. Foreigners can marry as soon as they arrive, provided they have completed the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) and lodged it with their intended Marriage Celebrant
Can you travel a large distance (e.g. across states) to perform our wedding?
I sure can! With a bit of notice I can absolutely make this price. Travel & accommodation fees may apply, please enquire to get the conversation started
Can I get married anywhere I want?
Yes! As long as you have permission from the venue of choice (including the local council for parks, beach etc)
Can we get married in a church?
Of course! I am happy to marry you wherever suits you. Remember: Your day, your way!
Do we have to use a microphone?
No. Using my PA system will help but is not necessary (Remember: Your witnesses must hear the legal wording of your ceremony)
- It's also important to consider your guests can hear the ceremony
We want to record our marriage for our friends overseas, can we do that?
Absolutely! I would suggest hiring a professional videographer with all the correct equipment to make it a ceremony your family and friends will love
I will of course acknowledge them in the ceremony and make them feel as if they were actually there! We don’t want anyone posting pics of our wedding before we do, how do we prevent this?
Simple! I will request at the beginning of the ceremony that all guests put their phones away for the duration of the ceremony
When do I get my marriage certificate?
A legal Presentation Marriage Certificate will be given to you on the day of your Marriage
Many couples also require an Official Certificate which is available from the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages, which is currently $52. You can apply to the BDM for this yourself, or I am happy to help (I don’t charge for this service)Once our wedding is over and we have obtained all the legal paperwork from you, will you still be available to answer any other questions?
Absolutely! My service is there for a lifetime. Any help you need after you’re all officially loved up, contact me
Do I really need a professional MC for my wedding?
A big yes! An MC is more than just an entertaining guy on stage with a mic. The MC liaises with the wedding planners and event coordinators as well as the venue, entertainment, photographers, videographers etc. to ensure the whole event goes smoothly. Time management and 'engaging a crowd' is not a burden you should put on one of your family and friends, leave that responsibility to me
Will I travel to marry you?
Of course! Love has no barriers and I love to travel! You name a place and we can make it work!
